his month we went hands-on with the

new Mac Pro, and it really was a beautiful
experience (check out our review on page
102). We were quickly editing and rendering 4K
videos in Final Cut, on a 4K display with no lag,
and spent far too long admiring the ports. It
inspired us to create a few desktop wallpapers
for you, which you can find on your free disc
along with your GarageBand audio pack.
We also rounded up some of the best security
apps and services for you as part of this month’s
Protect Your Mac feature, and you’ll find our
recommendations on your disc as well as a copy
of 1Password for you to download. It’s a must-
have guide for all Mac owners, showing you the
simple steps that you can take to beef up your
beloved machine’s security. We also teamed up
with Stormfront to get hold of an amazing
discount for you on its Mac accessories, which
you can find out about on page 21.
And that’s not all. We had a lot of fun putting
together a guide to making amazing music, so
turn to page 86 to find our Top 11 Music Making
Apps. We used one-tap apps like Figure, smart
mixing suites like Audacity (which we’ve also put
on your disc) and the best apps for playing live
music. Not a music fan? Don’t worry – you can
find our 50 Mac Secrets feature on page 51. We
reveal our most closely-guarded tips and tricks
for your creativity and productivity apps. We
think you’ll have some fun with this month’s
tutorials, too – we certainly had fun writing
them! And I hope you enjoy this issue as
much as we enjoyed making it for you.

It’s Dropbox for me. Until I can
AirDrop any and all of my files
between OS X and iOS, this little
fella is going to stay put on my
desktop and my home screens.
I would go for TweetDeck. It
makes working across more than
one Twitter account a breeze, and
with multiple timelines on-screen
you’re always up to date.

If you have a Magic Mouse or
Trackpad, BetterTouchTool is
absolutely essential. It lets you
create custom gestures for any
task you want, and it works great.
I watch a lot of videos on my
Mac, so I’m voting for VLC. It can
handle anything you throw at it,
including those awkward file
formats and subtitle tracks.

I’m plumping for DaisyDisk
because I think it should be built
in to OS X. It’s an essential space-
saving app for any Macs with a
smaller SSD, like my MacBook Air.
